Data Summary for State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2012-13 Annual Reporting

The following information is data collected from the local Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP). This data is representative of all 58 counties served by the 33 Planning and Services Areas (PSA) throughout California.

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) establishes eight (8) performance measures with certain targets based on Medicare population density in each county to determine the success of the State Health Insurance Program or HICAPs.

In State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2012-13, local HICAPs exceeded the minimum attainments and nearly all reached the exemplary benchmarks established by CMS.

The Local HICAPs saw a total of 101,628 Clients Served with 59,533 resulting in Finalized Intakes with over 421,472 Contacts made! This includes over 97,000 hours spent assisting Medicare beneficiaries and saved California Medicare Beneficiaries nearly $21 million with plan premiums and other medical related bills
