About the California Department of Aging (CDA)

The Director's Office

Lynn Daucher is the Director of the California Department of Aging (CDA). She was appointed to this position on February 6, 2007, by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. CDA administers programs serving older adults, adults with disabilities, family caregivers, and residents in long-term care facilities throughout the state. The Department administers funds allocated under the federal Older Americans Act, the state Older Californians Act, and through the Medi-Cal program. This array of federal and state funded programs and services include: information and assistance, in-home services, congregate and home-delivered meals, community service employment, advocacy and protection, health insurance counseling, case management, and long-term care Ombudsman services.

CDA also has program oversight for approximately 200 Adult Day Health Care Centers and 56 Alzheimer's Day Care Resource Centers and administers the Multipurpose Senior Services Program, a Medi-Cal waiver serving over 10,000 seniors throughout the state.

Prior to her appointment to CDA, Daucher served as the Assemblywoman from the 72nd District, which is located within Orange County and includes the cities of Anaheim Hills, Brea, Fullerton, La Habra, Placentia, Yorba Linda, and portions of Orange and Buena Park. She was first elected to the Assembly in 2000 after serving six years on the Brea City Council, including one year as Mayor.

A teacher by profession, Daucher began her career in public service when she was elected to the School Board for Brea Olinda Unified School District. Throughout her career, she has volunteered numerous hours at local schools to educate students about important issues affecting their communities and California.

Recognizing the importance of senior issues, Daucher served as Vice-Chair of the Assembly Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care. She also served on the Budget Committee; the Budget Sub-Committee No. 2 on Education and Finance; the Appropriations Committee; the Elections, Reapportionment, and Constitutional Amendments Committee; and the Local Government Committee. Largely due to her expertise in educational issues, she was appointed to the Assembly Committee on the Master Plan for Higher Education. In addition, she served on the Republican Caucus' Leadership Team as Minority Whip and Assistant Caucus Chairperson.

Daucher holds a bachelor's degree in education, with a minor in mathematics, from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. She and her husband of 38 years, Don, have four grown children and have made their home in Brea for the past 36 years.
