Nearly $800,000 to Fund One-Stop Centers for Long-Term Care Programs
SACRAMENTO - State Aging Director Lynda Terry today announced that California has received a federal grant totaling nearly $800,000 to create "one-stop" resource centers in Del Norte and San Diego counties to help seniors and adults with disabilities learn about and access long-term care programs ranging from in-home supportive services to nursing home care.
These resource centers will serve as a single point of entry into the long-term care system and assist persons with disabilities, older Californians and family caregivers in making informed choices for themselves and their loved ones, said Terry.
The grant is part of the Aging and Disability Resource Center Grant Program in President Bush's New Freedom Initiative. The federal grant program was developed to help overcome barriers to community living by providing an opportunity to create a single coordinated system for the elderly and persons with disabilities. The program is a joint effort involving the federal Department of Health and Human Services' Administration on Aging and the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
This new funding will help California in its efforts to streamline access to multiple public and private programs and ensure that families can find the long-term care they need, added Terry.
