HICAP Data Summary - 2010-2011
Data Summary State Fiscal Year 2010-2011 Annual Report
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) revised the methodology for evaluating the performance of each state and territory. This new method now includes analysis at the zip code level and “slices” based on Medicare population rather than by State or Territory clusters.
California has six (5) separate slices and five (5) outlying counties not included in a slice. The outlying counties are included in Planning and Service Areas (PSA) and are required to provide services.
CMS’ revised methodology, improved data reporting and the implementation of the Statewide HICAP Automated Reporting Program (SHARP) resulted in more accuracy at the local level.
State reporting increased by 25% from previous fiscal year and moved to 7th place overall national ranking. The State received a $356,071 Performance Award for Fiscal Year 2010-11.
